Sprachhafen provides community-based educational and social support for children, adolescents, young adults and families facing challenging circumstances.

The service combines professional youth welfare support with intercultural expertise, qualified language education and assistance with school, vocational training and employment.

A particular focus is placed on unaccompanied minors, young refugees, care leavers and young people making the transition towards independent living.

All services are individually planned, strengths-based and delivered in close cooperation with youth welfare offices, parents and legal guardians, youth welfare providers and other professional services.

Community-Based Youth Welfare Services

Educational Assistance

Individual support for children and adolescents experiencing personal, family-related, educational or social difficulties.

The aim is to promote personal development, support constructive conflict resolution and develop sustainable future perspectives.

Social Education Support for Families

Practical support for families experiencing stressful or difficult circumstances. Existing strengths and resources are reinforced, while solutions are developed for parenting challenges, family conflicts and everyday organisation.

Intensive Individual Social Education Support

Reliable and individually tailored assistance for adolescents and young adults with an increased need for support.

The nature and scope of the assistance are based on the individual’s circumstances and the objectives agreed in the official support plan.

Support for Young Adults

Assistance with the transition towards an independent and responsible life. Key areas include housing, household management, finances, health, administrative matters, education, vocational training and employment.

Independent Living and Aftercare Support

Community-based assistance during the transition from residential youth care, supported accommodation or another youth welfare measure into independent housing.

The objective is to maintain stability, develop independent living skills and prevent renewed crises or loss of accommodation.

Support Within Accommodation Provided by Other Organisations

Social education support may also be provided to young people living in youth apartments, residential groups or other accommodation operated by a partner youth welfare organisation.

Responsibilities are clearly agreed before the support begins. The respective accommodation provider remains fully responsible for housing, daily care, supervision, staffing and the operation of the residential service.

Sprachhafen does not provide accommodation and does not operate a residential youth welfare facility.

Specialised Support for Unaccompanied Minors and Young Refugees

Unaccompanied minors and young adult refugees often face particular personal, linguistic, educational and institutional challenges. Sprachhafen provides culturally sensitive and practical support in the following areas:

Sprachhafen is an owner-managed sole proprietorship specialising in community-based youth welfare, social education support, language development and employment integration.

The educational and social services are provided by the owner and professionally responsible practitioner, Pradeep Pathirana.

The combination of social education expertise, extensive youth welfare experience, language teaching and intercultural competence enables comprehensive support, including in complex circumstances.

Purpose of the Support

The purpose of all services is to promote the long-term stability of young people and families.

Personal abilities are strengthened, difficult situations are addressed and sustainable personal, educational and vocational perspectives are developed.

Professional Qualifications

  • State-recognised early childhood and youth educator
  • Extensive professional experience in child and youth welfare
  • Social Work degree programme with the objective of obtaining state recognition
  • Master’s degree in German as a Foreign Language
  • Qualified teacher of German as a Foreign and Second Language
  • BAMF approval to teach integration courses
  • BAMF approval to teach vocational language courses
  • Additional qualification for literacy courses
  • Experience in linguistic, educational and vocational integration
  • Intercultural and migration-specific expertise
  • Multilingual communication in German, English and Sinhala
