What Does Professional Recognition Mean?

Professional recognition is a procedure that checks whether a professional qualification obtained abroad is comparable to a German professional qualification. Training, content, duration, certificates, and, where relevant, professional experience are reviewed. For regulated professions, such as nursing, recognition is generally required in order to work in Germany in that profession. For non-regulated professions, recognition is not always mandatory, but it can be helpful for applications, employers, and career opportunities. The final decision is made by the competent recognition authority.

We Support With

  • Preparing and organizing required documents
  • Reviewing certificates, training records, and professional experience
  • Preparing CVs and application documents
  • Communication with employers, businesses, and institutions
  • Preparation for interviews
  • Guidance in navigating the recognition process
  • Referral to suitable companies, businesses, hotels, care facilities, or training companies
The final decision on recognition, visa, residence, employment, or apprenticeship contract is made exclusively by the competent authorities and employers.

Recognition for Nursing Professionals

Nursing professionals from Sri Lanka generally need professional recognition or permission to use the professional title in order to work as nursing professionals in Germany. The competent authority checks the equivalence of the training and other requirements. If substantial differences are identified, a compensatory measure may be required, such as an adaptation course or knowledge test. The competent recognition authority decides which measure is required. Sprachhafen supports with orientation, document preparation, translation, and communication. Recognition is not guaranteed.

Professionals in Trades, Technology, Automotive, Electrical, Hotels, and Hospitality

In addition to nursing professionals, we also support professionals from other fields, such as electrical work, automotive mechatronics, skilled trades, hotels, hospitality, and technical and commercial occupations. Depending on the profession, formal recognition may be required, voluntary, or helpful for employers. Together with candidates, we review which documents are available and which steps are appropriate for the specific profession.
